Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling: biggest filling facility in Nogara modernised

More than 110 million bottles a year featuring maximised quality and minimised costs for both the CSD and the aseptic line are the result of extensive modernisation initiatives at Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Co. Italy (CCHBC Italia) at its facility in Nogara. The layout jointly created by CCHBC Italia and Krones in this turnkey project was tasked with effecting a complete restructuring of the facility, with minimised space and staffing requirements, an option for product range expansion to include beverage-sterile filling, higher availability and a lower cost of ownership overall.
The two-year project kicked off with installation of a BLOC comprising a Contiform S24 blow-moulder and an isometric Isofill filler for 36,000 1.5-l bottles an hour. This replaced two existing 18,000-bph lines. For the labelling function, CCHBC opted for a Contiroll labeller, changing over from sleeve-labelling of the PET bottles to reel-fed wrap-around labelling. This means that only one Contiroll is needed per line, instead of two sleeve labellers, because the Contiroll is faster. And the labelling costs are reduced as well.
An Accuflow buffer table was integrated between the filler and the labeller, and also between the Contiroll and the Variopac packer. The 4x and 6x1.5-litre-bottle packs created on the Variopac are passed to a PalBloc with an inline grouping station, a palletising module and integrated pallet transport.

After the 36,000-bph CSD line had been installed, the two canning lines and the remaining 26,000-bph Pet line were relayouted. In Phase Three of the project schedule, the first aseptic bottling line was installed at CCHBC Italia. The PET-Asept-L line for wet sterilisation using peracetic acid means that production orders for sensitive products need no longer be placed with outside contract bottlers. Today, the line is running three shifts a day, seven days a week. CCHBC Italia is anticipating a return on investment within five years. The order also encompassed the dry end, featuring a Variopac Schrumpf-Traypacker, a Pressant Compact palletiser, a pallet labeller and the entire conveyor routes, including two vertical pack conveyors.
