Fill level, foil seal, closure - checked

Shamrock Farms operate a new Krones rinser-filler-BLOC for filling 8-, 12-, 32- and 62-ounce HDPE bottles at a speed of 24.000 bph, and rely on Krones inspection technology as well.  Shamrock Farms, Phoenix, Arizona, fifth-largest dairy in the USA, utilise a Checkmat inspector for checking the labelled, filled and capped bottles for correct fill level and the presence of foil seal and cap by means of X-ray technology.  Bottles that fail any aspect of the inspection are rejected. Those that pass the test are mass conveyed toward the packer. The company has gone away from the traditional dairy single-line conveyor and is using the mass conveying favoured by the beverage industry: more bottles can travel at a slower speed with less tip-over and fewer jams, so by mass conveying higher speeds can be achieved.
Checkmat inspectors can handle several tasks in a filling line:

  • The Checkmat FM-X with integrated monitor checks presence and correct position of the labels.
  • The Checkmat EM checks the fill level and the position of the cap.
  • The Checkmat label inspector checks the label with a CCD camera: Is the label correct and positioned correctly? Is the date-stamping of the applied label correct? Highly reflecting labels can be inspected as well.
  • The Checkmat fill level inspector operates with infrared, gamma, or x-rays, depending on the container and product type. A sensor or camera system checks the caps.
